Position Description

Summary                                                  

 

The Applied Practice Registered Nurse-Nurse Practitioner (APRN-NP) with a behavioral health endorsement performs advanced professional psychiatric services, and provides clinical supervision for other staff as assigned.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

·         Provides professional psychiatric services to clients of the agency, including psychiatric evaluations, medication managements, and emergency assessments.

·         APRN-NPs practice in collaboration and consultation with physicians and other health care practitioners.

·         Supervises clinical work of LPN, RN, or other therapists, as assigned.

·         Assists with on-call supervisory needs as indicated by the Director of Outpatient Clinical Services.  May be required to provide clinical supervision to staff handling emergencies after hours.

·         Provides consultation, education and prevention services to other agencies and individuals.

·         Completes necessary clinical documents and evaluations in a timely manner.

·         Develops treatment plans in conjunction with clients.

·         Communicates with managed care companies as needed for authorization of services.

 

Agency Responsibility:

·         Participates in clinical and staff meetings for the development and implementation of client treatment or for administrative purposes.

·         Coordinates services as appropriate with other treatment providers within the agency when the client is receiving multiple services.

·         Must comply with Agency policies and procedures, including those regarding conduct, confidentiality, and record keeping.

 

Education and/or Experience                                             

·         An Advanced Practice Registered Nurse-Nurse Practitioner (APRN-NP) is a registered nurse who has obtained additional education and licensure to manage common health problems and chronic conditions including prescribing treatments and medications.  Nurses educated as either a nurse practitioner or a clinical nurse specialist may qualify for licensure as an APRN-NP if they meet all of the licensure requirements.

·         Behavioral Health Endorsement

·         Most APRN-NP’s have a master’s or doctoral degree in nursing. All must pass a national certification examination.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

·         Must be licensed as an APRN-NP.

·         Must be a Nebraska licensed driver with a good driving/safety record.

  • Ability to develop professional documents in a timely manner.
